I Wish Everyone Knew How Valuable They Are!

I Wish Everyone Knew How Valuable They Are!

Brenda Dillon

I confess that I’m one of those people who use social media to wish my friends Happy Birthday or a congratulations.

It’s convenient. It’s accepted.

But there’s something exciting about getting a piece of mail with a message just for you.

I think card senders are exceptional people.

I received two fantastic pieces of mail this month. My neice from Virginia sent me a Mother’s Day card and a birthday card– both beautifully hand-crafted.

I think about the time and effort it took to gather the supplies, to plan the design & to construct these uncommon greetings.

What a treasure they are to have. But the message! Sure she wished me a Happy Mother’s Day & a Happy Birthday; but, the real message was, “You’re valued.”

Doesn’t everyone want to know…
…they’re thought about?
…they’re worth spending time on?
…they’re important?

I get it– hand-crafting a card may not be your thing. But maybe you can make a phone call, take a treat to share with a coworker, spend some time sweeping grass off the sidewalk with your neighbor.

There’s a million little ways to express, “You’re valuable.”

Jesus was ideal at speaking value into people:

He spent time with children….

He came to the rescue of the adulterous woman who was ready to be stoned….

He washed the disciples feet….

We’re all important. God’s into making sure we know it. Shouldn’t we be practicing that with one another?

Truth be told, I’ll probably still be found sending holiday greetings over Facebook. Maybe you will too. But we can all take time to acknowledge someone today, to shine a spotlight on someone’s worth, to appreciate the people God has placed in our lives….

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31)
