Individual Praise vs. Adding to the Clamor

Individual Praise vs. Adding to the Clamor

Brenda Dillon

For a while, my youngest son hadn’t been living at home. So, every night my husband, my oldest son & I called him over video chat.

After a half hour or so of talking, catching up & laughing together, we began to say our goodbyes.

Everyone chimed in with, “I love you!” & “Good night!” & “Sweet dreams!” & “Miss you!” and other such remarks.

Honestly, every single time, we all talked over one another– to the point that we really couldn’t tell what he was saying, and I’m sure he couldn’t make sense of all the three of us called out.😂

One morning, I was thinking about it and figuring that we needed to take more time to express ourselves individually, rather than nobody really hearing what the other was saying.

Then it soaked into my heart. It isn’t about the individual exchanges. It’s the expression of our feelings that matters.

Yes, to others it would sound like clamor; but, we always got off the video with a sense of heightened awareness of our love & care for one another, always hung up with a smile.

Maybe we couldn’t hear which person was saying what, or even all that was being said; but, it was a clamor that sounded like love….

I’ve heard people ask, “How does God hear everyone on earth praying individually at once?”

My answer is simply, “He’s God. That’s one of the miraculous things that sets Him apart from me and you.”

But our expressions to Him, our worship, our praises…. Although I fully know God hears us individually, how ultimately pleasing it must be to Him to hear so many of his children declaring their hearts to Him at once!

Just as my family expressed itself to my son in his absence, our daily praises proclaim our love for our Father residing in Heaven.

So lately, I’m finding my prayer has been to always be found…adding to the clamor.
