I still sing the songs my Sunday School teachers taught us when I was a little girl!
I was thinking about one particular song this morning. Do you remember it? It goes like this….
Deep & wide. Deep & wide! God’s love is deep & wide….
We did those hand motions expressing DEEP and WIDE as we sang!
That little tune left an indelible impression on my life.
As I sang a more grown up song this morning from Point of Grace (My favorite group from the 90’s.), my brain went to that little “deep & wide” song from childhood.
I feel like preschool & elementary teachers sometimes feel like what they’re doing is more like babysitting than investing in people’s spirits. But I know I’m beyond grateful for a heritage of Biblical children’s songs that reminded me how greatly God loves me.
They’re still doing their job today! And in a sense, so are those sweet church school teachers. It may have been decades since they invested their time & effort into teaching us those Bible songs; but, their efforts are still effective in my life!
Thank God for people who who put up with screaming, unruly kids…
…who gave up their home time to prepare a lesson & crafts,
…who gave up their church time to delve out snacks of peanut butter saltines & water to a room full of hyper littles.
They’re superheroes to me!
You may not feel like your efforts have mattered. You may not see what seeds your ministry has sown. But, I promise you, whatever you’ve done for Jesus…he’s taken notice of and blessed.
I GUARANTEE there are people out there carrying around tiny seedlings, thriving sprouts, even full-grown plants in their lives that YOU began.
Thirty years later you may be reading a blog from someone like me, who’s telling how much your ministry meant in their life–and finally see the fruits.
Don’t give up because you don’t see results today! Fruit takes a long time to develop. But I promise you, harvest time will bring you the sweetest of joys from gazing upon fully-developed trees hanging abundantly with fruit….
