It’s a Measure of our Love for Christ

It's a Measure of our Love for Christ

Brenda Dillon

What happens when the rooster crows?

We wake up! And that’s what happened to Peter….

He’d rejected Jesus’s warning that his heart wasn’t where it needed to be. He insisted he’d be found reliable.

Peter was confident in his loyalty, pursuaded by his self-righteousness, sure about his relationship.

Then adversity came and his self-assurance crumbled. Three times he swore he didn’t even KNOW Jesus.

When I was growing up, we called that a Sunday morning Christian. You’re hot, on fire for God on church day; but, when the world moves in on Monday, it’s all about blending in.

God wants us to check ourselves. There’s a huge difference between commitment and love. Commitments can change; but, true love…it captures our attention, embeds itself into our hearts, creates an immutable bond.

Yes, God wants us to start out with a commitment; but, he really wants us to grow in our relationship, to fall hopelessly in love with Him as we discover just how good He really is.

When we had our son, I committed myself to being a good parent; but, when he was in danger, it was my overwhelming LOVE for him that made me risk my own safety for his.

We all hope we’ll be found faithful when catastrophes arise,

that we’ll be steadfast if friendships test our righteousness,

that darkness doesn’t snuff out our spirit’s light.

Peter had a wakeup call. Because of it, he was shaken, sorrowful, wept bitterly.

I don’t think ANY of us want a rude awakening like Peter’s. So, today, let’s choose to set our own alarm, to make time to spend being intimate in our prayer lives, crying out for the Holy Spirit to purge everything from us that doesn’t look like Christ.

Today, l’ll meditate on His goodness, take note of all His blessings, set up pillars of remembrances of God’s innumerable graces.

I WILL take time to love on Him and to recognize the immeasurable love He endues on me….
